View Full Version : Installing a CDRW

Help! I tried to install an older Creative CDRW, 2x2x24 on my 486 DX-100, Win98 desktop. Power goes to the drive but no drive letter is assigned...the computer doesn't even register that new hardware has been installed. I can't get the Adaptec software to work either...I think this may be a conflict with Win98. What have I done wrong? I replaced my CD-rom drive with the CDRW as I don't think my motherboard/power outlet will allow me to have both drives installed. Help! :-)

Have you got the CDRW drivers just in case Win98 doesn't support that drive?

You might need to get those and install them before the drive is recognised.

I would be thinking BIOS settings, go into BIOS pressing delete or F1 (a good way if u don't have a clue is press lots of keys after RAM check).

Any way in BIOS make sure that IDE channels or similar except your hard drive probably Primary Master(as it should be set) are set to AUTO or CD ROM (the others are secondary master, primary slave and secondary slave).

Try and post back with problems.

Your Creative unit CD RW is probabbly still set as Master.
You may need help as Creative is a label, not a make.
Depends on what software it runs and the I O capabilities of your 486/100.
