I use Windows XP Professional and Office XP on a Toshiba laptop. At work,
I log onto the network through the NIC. At home, I use the machine as a
standalone.

How can I set XP up so...
1. I can access the same Outlook data file, no matter whether I am logged on
to the network or not? This means I can maintain contacts lists
consistently, access email, etc.

2. I can use the same settings for Word, etc... such as the recently used
file list.

3. Use the same desktop settings (such as the Quick Launch toolbar)?

Many thanks.

Hi Pat, just log on at home with the same username and password (and domain) as at work. XP should allow you to log on with 'cached credentials' unless your system administrator has disabled it (unlikely). If you are using an Exchange server at work with Outlook, you can configure Outlook with offline support. You can do this by starting Outlook, clicking Tools-> Services then double clicking Microsoft Exchange Server. The click on the Offline Folders tab, tick Enable Offline Folders. It will then sync up with your mailbox. When you log onto your system with cached credentials at home, and load Outlook, it will report that it cannot connect and ask if you would like to run offline. You can then read and compose messages and they will be synchronised and sent etc when you plug back into the network and use Outlook.
