View Full Version : PC will not start

My computer froze while playing a game (a game i have played many times before with no problems). I then hit the reset button. The computer will now not start at all, ie no on screen activity, and it makes a continuous beeping noise upon boot up. I have swithed it on and off a few times, checked the cables, given it a few hours to cool off and even reset some of the cards but i still get the same response. If someone out there has any ideas how i can go about fixing this problem i would be very grateful.

May be a wild guess here, I had the same problem once before, our reset button is a tiny little thing you push in with a pen nib, it can get stuck in resulting in what you describe.
Check the reset button, make sure it is not stuck in and has properly released.

Hmm... beep codes. They are suppose to tell you the problems that your experiencing.

No screen activity can result in a few things. Maybe the system memory or the video memory. Since it was a game it's possible the video memory went. You didn't by any chance overclock your video memory?

Maybe try a different graphics card to see if that works

Sounds like a fried video card. The beep codes are as follows:

1 short - Normal P.O.S.T

2 short - P.O.S.T error code

no beep - power supply, system board

One long, two short - display adaptor

one long three short - enhanced graphics.

Hope this helps.
