View Full Version : HP Compaq 6730b boots when charger is plugged in.

I have a HP Compaq 6730b notebook which boots into Windows 7 Ult 32bit, as soon as the charger is plugged in. It has no battery.
I can't find anything in the BIOS apart from the boot order. After W7 has booted you can shut down & boot normally. If you disconnect the charger, then connect it again W7 will boot. Could it be that the surge from the charger is normally dampened by the battery, and the surge causes it to boot?

I have tried 2 other computers with the batteries removed, but they do not boot when the charger is plugged in.
Any ideas?

I forget the wording but a lot of BIOSes have a setting for the action to take after a power interruption, mostly do nothing or boot. Being a notebook maybe it can't be changed, they do tend to be more locked down.
Also it might act differently if you had a battery.

Problem solved. This computer was used with a docking station by its original owner. I found a switch in the BIOS which was set for the docking station. It is now normal.
