View Full Version : Free Antivirus Software/Firewalls for Linux

Hi,

I've decided to move away from windows as much as possible, so I will be running several versions of Linux and will run any windows programs under wine or vmware.

My big stumbling blocks are:

1. Are there any free antivirus products out there for linux?

2. Are there any gui based free firewalls for linux? (This isn't such a biggy, but it be convenient if there were).

Thanks

B

Have a look through the online manuals:
http://nix.tmk.auckland.ac.nz/LDP/guides.html .
'Securing and Optimiziing Linux Red Hat Edition' refers to Tripwire. (tucows/linuxberg have Aide (free version of Tripwire).
Also have a lookm at Linux administrators Security Guide : www.seifried.org/lasg/ .

Also the 'Installation and Getting Started' manual in the LDP site is essential reading.

If you want a firewall you can install on an old 486 or something as a standalone, look at the 'eSmith' distribution.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll definitely read up on these sites. I already know about Linuxes built in Firewall, thats why I wasn't to worried about that side of things.

Cheers

OK,

I think I'll give up on the viruskiller side of things, but I found a really full featured firewall thats free for personal use.

http://www.astaro.com/

The only down side was you need a Pentium II 300 or better to run it.

Thanks for all your help.
