Interesting item from Malwarebytes about malvertising, ads which contain really nasty stuff to sneak into your computer and take control:

Website owners dont give a rats ass about who they let advertise on their website .

Some obviously bogus stuff often advertised in legit website . Basically snake oil sort of stuff.
Or as has happened in the past, the submitted ad is OK, then that ad gets changed without the website owner knowing (or caring) .

There's a lot of money exchanging hands that some advertisers have no morals and will exploit visitors. The amount of profiling that takes place is crazy that it will get to a stage where everyone will start catching on to using more private and secure means.

For the paranoid (myself included), I run Tails OS for a lot of financial transactions, banking, foreign, cryptocurrency, etc. It's designed for privacy and security. Every now and again flaws show up, but it does feel a lot safer.

Most sites ads are supplied by an ad 'network' so the site owner has no idea what specific ads are served.
