Approx Jan 1st windows did an update and created windows.old.
Did a Google & founds heaps of ways to delete it, tried them all, more or less, but it still there.
Can someone please give me an easy fix?
Thanks,
Ian

Desktop bottom Left, R click & select RUN. Type in cleanmgr.exe and enter. Follow the prompts and when you get to the screen that shows Clean up system files, select that. It will take a little while but it will clean out Windows.old. Make sure you tick the check boxes.

This is the same as right click the drive.
I've run it heaps & ticked all boxes.

What is in the folder? Is it just some small residue that won't delete or is it the multi GB deal?

The last couple of Insider releases left a residue on my machine but I del the folder by running cmd as admin then from the root directory (C:) I use the command rd /s windows.old

Says 64 folders.
tried rd /s windows.old and every folder says, access denied.

When cmd appears as a result in search, right click on it, and click on run as administrator.

No, please read what I posted carefully.

Search for cmd, right click on the result, click on run as administrator.
Or
Find it in list of programs, right click on it etc.

I right clicked clicked on Search & put in CMD & same result.
I'm ringing windows 10 Home, if the helps...

You don't right click on search, you right click on the cmd entry you get from search.

Look at the screen-shot
Next to the start tile is a magnifying glass icon, that is the search utility
click on it on your machine and type cmd
when the results appear
right click on the entry command prompt
select run as administrator
then run the original command from that.

I had a similar problem some time ago & it did eventually go away on its own.
So unless you need the disc space, just forget about it.
