I would like to build my own homepage. One that has links to all the places I go, the bank, eminda etc. While I appreciate the effort xtra puts in to theirs, 99% of it is no use to me. MSNExplorer, nice but again the same problem. I have done this before, but struck the problem of the my PC not connecting to the internet. Why should it, the page loads off my drive. Now i could have a home page on xtra, but I don't really want people picking their way thru what is basically my favourites. Any suggestions on how I could make my pc connect to the internet even though the home page does not require it to.

You could try using an image that is loaded from an external URL so the computer will need to connect to retieve it.

There should be no reason why you can not do that. The links off of your Homepage on your hard drive would have to be absolute as opposed to relative links though.

eg: 'http://www.xtra.co.nz'

normally a link just goes

'/main.htm' telling it to look for a page in the same folder as the one it is currently in.

I don't know if this is exactly what you mean but .... I use an html page created by 'favestogo' which is a freebie program from PC Magazine, ..... I think. It creates a html page from your favourites. If you add to your favourites, just rerun the program. Open your page as a defacto home page and click on where you want to be. I can not remember the site I found it but if you are interested I can post it tonight when I'm home. (Damn work!!!)

...you might like to try the following:

(i) Inside your Browser, set your 'Home Page' to BLANK [go > Tools > Internet Options > click 'Use Blank' for Home Page > click Apply/Okay]

(ii) Set your LINKS bar to show as a ' >> ' symbol on your Browser's Task Bar.

(iii) Place all those Sites you like to visit on a regular basis inside your LINKS folder (you mention the bank, 'eminda' etc).

[An easy way of moving them there is to simply 'drag' or copy them into your LINKS Folder while working inside the Favourites folders of Windows Explorer]

To operate ... simply open your Browser, click on LINKS - select the site you want - done!

You might discover a number of advantages with this method - not least being that your Browser will now open *very* quickly. In addition, one's security is improved, the topic for another interesting posting(?).

Cheers!!!
