In the midst of composing my email message, my PC unexpectedly shuts me off and restarts it for me. This is the second time though not often. Any idea what is the cause and how to rectify it? Appreciate advice. CHIN3927

Could be updates, they do that occasionally. Also could be overheating.

What OS (might be an auto winupdate restart)
how old is the PC/laptop ?
how often ?
is the shutdown instant or can you see it shutting down nicely

hard/quick restarts usually a hardware issue. Could be overheating, faulty MB or vid card, bad power supply etc etc etc

It can mean the PSU is faulty. Look in event viewer under windows logs/system. If there are any event 41 errors, thats what it can mean

You should also uncheck 'Automatically restart' as that will allow you to read the STOP codes.

(ctrl panel\System\Advanced system settings\Startup and recovery Settings).
