Basically there's a 10m cable running from the lounge to my room on the floor.
Don't want anyone to trip over it but I can't move the cable aside because it cuts thru different rooms.

I was hoping if there's a network cable that lights up so people can see it in the dark.

Something like this http://www.adafruit.com/products/1234 but as a network cable?

there doesn't seem to be.

you could however run glow in the dark tape along the length of the cable.

I bought some multi coloured "light up" USB micro data cables. Might be some lighted network cables made in China. Do a google image search to find out.

USB has power as well as data, network does not so you're not likely to find a glowing network cable.

I kinda doubt he will be using PoE to go from a router to a PC somehow.

Gotta be Friday - The silly day :) You could always run the cable next to THESE (http://www.fishpond.co.nz/Toys/Dazzling-Toys-Traffic-Orange-Cones-Pack-of-12-dazzling-toys/0640052670891) :)

put a mat over it?

Hard to find a mat 10m in length

I guess they'll have to put up with it

Similar to Mirddles idea, maybe rig the cable to a 240V LED Strip/Rope (https://goo.gl/W1FXfQ) (images) system or neon tubes. (https://goo.gl/95Yc16). Jaycar (http://www.jaycar.co.nz/Ecotech/Eco-Consumer-Products/Lighting---LED-Products/RGB-LED-Flexible-Strip-Lighting-Kit-with-Effects/p/SL3954) sell RGB Flexible strips with dazzling effects if you want that.

I've seen people use the christmas LED cable thingy and tape the ethernet cable to it side by side - so its literally 2 cables running side by side - works for them... but would love it as a 1 cable :)

Run it room to room under the floor or in the ceiling. My house has a web of cables going in all directions, some RF, some Data, some TV, some Audio. I won't mention the Intruder Alarm network.

Under the floor usually offers the shortest route, with above-ceiling second choice. I've even got underground cables in two separate plastic conduits out to the manshed: power in one; phone, security, TV and data in the other.
