Came across this Windows 7 label in the Win7 DVD box - looks genuine. There's also a dark yellow product key label, too.

5980

What's that?

It's counterfeit according to some searches in Google. Or MDSN. Which cant be used, if you're not a subscriber

I tried to install this to a test machine and activated it successfully. Is this genuine?

Is there a way to confirm online whether it is genuine or not, other than activating it online?

With these things, if it seems dodgy it often is.
Where did you get it ?

ROW = rest of world
Try googling the install key. If you get a lot of google hits with that key chances are its dodgy

Googled the key produced NO results. - it must be genuine?

Gave it to me by a friend who says he got it together with the laptop (SONY) he bought many years ago and the laptop has been broken.

If it activated ok I would accept it as genuine.

If it activated ok I would accept it as genuine. Actually no its not. It may not be a key that's allowed to be sold.

One way to tell, what version it is, press the Windows key & Pause key at the same time. or right click Computer/Properties -- Right down the very bottom,is the product ID, what you are looking for is the second set of Numbers there will be 3 digits -- what are they. ?

The last set of numbers: 85124

It's 5 digits rather than 3.

Shouldn't be, to quote : It will look something like this: 12345-067-1234567-54321. The portion you are interested in is the three digit section.

OK, my mistake, the 3 digit number: 293
