Just when was your Win installed ?

Heres a little trick I found, it will give some idea just how old some of those XP PC's are.

run this in a dos box (cmd) . If you cut & paste, retype the quote marks " " .
systeminfo | find /i "Original"

So who has the oldest install, being used as their regular PC.

Probably due for a re-install, but can't be bothered. Too many programs to reload

Just looked at a PC being used as a Server With XP, Original install date 04/09/2007, (never gets turned off - files accessed daily).

The XP is basically only acting as a file server, with some backups as well daily. If I were to do it again I'd install NAS software.

5972 What you can do is go into the C drive, right click on the Windows Folder, there is will tell you a date and time created, thats when it was also installed.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\InstallDate
You can decode that time using Perl or anything that will decode 'number of seconds since Jan 1 1970'

Fair enough - that puts you in the lead then - or is that further behind? :)

Cool trick. When I pasted into the command line I didn't need to retype the quotation marks.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009, 9:04:06 PM XP, I am a late adopter, no sooner than I move to a new windows version than it is declared obsolete. Suits me fine, means MS can find no major improvements to be made, so it will be pretty stable for some time. Must look out for a windows 7 disk soon (release date 22/10/2009) :D
