I've upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP. I have a HP 8100i CD WRiter that can no longer read CD-RW's that were previously written with ME. BUT...it can read CD-RWs that have MP3's on them! XP recognises the drive, but no files are displayed in Explorer. XP can write and read to new CD-RW's.

The first thing to check would be whether or not the disc has been finalised correctly, if at all. The method of doing this depends on what cd mastering program you use.

**There is a CDR update on Windows Update for XP too**

Thanks Dylan for your reply...I used a program called 'Direct CD' that was loaded when I first installed the Writer. I donlt know how to finalise a CD-RW, so...no it hasnt been.

Only install DirectCD if you have version 5, anything older will kill XP. Installing even version 5 will stop your machine from shutting down properly, so you must obtain an XP-Compatibility patch from Roxio.

Or download the UDF reader (freeware)
