The Eulogy of Alta Vista (http://goo.gl/9DSd6) (From search engine expert). One of the most popular and seemingly loved search engines of mid 90's expired just over a year ago. Now forgotten - but apparently not by Page/Brin of Google that had interest for it and other SE's at the time. But of course their "Backrub (http://infolab.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html)" (Their research paper for hypertextual search engine - Their presentation of the new Google) became Google Search (History Timeline (http://www.google.co.nz/about/company/history/)). Some SE's (recall Hotbot, MrJeeves, Lycos, excite, etx) lived and died. (http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2064954/Where-Are-They-Now-Search-Engines-Weve-Known-Loved)

That was the worst worded post ever. Although having said that... one of my ex's was a librarian and she said in her proffession that Alta Vista was the preferred SE.

The author admits writing from a plane, and not the best for writing, and noted in comments only proofread from himself twice. Perhaps a bit rushed, and kind of expressing too much of human attributes to a inanimate, though well liked search engine object.

Well...I used it, it was good at the time, then along came Google.

Back in the days when Dogpile used a bunch of search engines to find pages or files, Alta Vista was one of the best.

For finding things of dodgy ancestry, there was ASTALAVISTA, nowadays Bellamy's is probably a better place to look. ;)
