View Full Version : New HDD and WIN8.1 problem.

My desktop came with Win7 on a 2TB HDD.

I installed WIN8 now 8.1 on a far smaller HDD that has packed a sad. I have a current backup using Acronis.

The 2TB HDD has a reserved partition for WIN7 and includes Win8.1 from the smaller HDD.

I have restored the Win8.1 to another 1TB HDD and it runs as the main boot O/S. To get WIN7 I have to disconnect the 1TB and connect the 2TB.

I would like to have both HDD's running and be able to alternate between the Win8.1 or boot to Win7.

Trying to put 8.1 on the 2TB, Acronis warns that it can only restore to an empty HDD and all partitions will be deleted.

Anyone have any ideas how I can dual boot from the two HDDs? EasyBCD and VistabootPro don't work - probably the WIN8.1 causes that problem. Also I do know that WIN8.1 has a different BCD setup to WIN7.

Should have left win7 connected when you installed Win 8. Probably easier if you reinstall Win8 again. But leave Win7 hdd connected. Just make sure you format / install to the right hdd !
