View Full Version : Win 7 licence - change to another computer?

I installed Windows 7 on one of my PCs as a test, and now need to permanently install it onto another. How do I do this, not only physically but also legitimately (so that Microsoft will allow legit updates)? The licence/key is for only one PC as I understand, and I have to do it legit as its for business purposes.

Ring the free MS number. That's if you haven't activated it yet

Just install it , if it doesn't activate as Speedy Said, simply call MS explain its only on the One PC and they will manually activate it.

For future reference : if you want to do testing, simply use the Default keys that MS supply on the DVD http://www.cluberti.com/blog/2009/08/11/default-keys-for-vista-and-windows-7-deployment/ They will install, allow you to do what ever you like, but wont activate.

or for test installs of Win7 you can actually just skip the lic key at the install stage. You can put it in later if wanted.

Ive noticed MS are getting stricter on automated phone OEM activations.
Used to be you could activate a few times before you had to talk to a human....
