I'm about to upgrade a friend's computer to Win 7. The installation completely erases everything, and she's dependent on her old emails. What files do I need to backup or copy to save them so she can access them afterwards?

Export the account settings from OE - they save as a .iaf file. (tools, accounts)

Save c:\docs and settings\*user*\application data\microsoft\address book

Save c:\docs and settings\*user*\local settings\application data\identities\looooooooooooooooooooong folder name\Outlook Express.

Windows Live Mail imports all this natively - very easy.

if they have MS Office with Outlook.....
Outlook is a much better option of Win Live mail.

Install outlook on the XP , it will give you the option of importing email: do that
Outlook : file : export email as a PST : save that to USB or something
Win7 : Install Outlook : import that PST
You will still need to manually setup the email a/c, you'll need to know there email password. Revelation can extract email passwords .
