Any ideas please ?

Uninstall it / reinstall it like this (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/messenger-wlinstall/how-to-uninstall-windows-live-essentials-via-cmd/3d26c7ea-faf0-437a-88b0-c5bdd3dd31ec)

You can try deleting the cache folder, the following article is from W7, but W8 is basically the same http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/237721-windows-live-mail-won-t-open-fixed-win-7-64-bits.html If it doesn't work you can always go back into the recycle bin and restore the folder.

Look in the error logs if its there ( as per the article) it should tell you whats not right.

Seen this misbehave a couple of times on Win8 recently, in both cases a restart & update fixed it. Thankfully, otherwise when it falls over it can be a right pain to get up and running again.

Still in trouble. Have done both options as above but still bombs when loading database.

Looks like Live mail can give you a 0x58000A error if this is what you're seeing if some Acronis program is installed

Don't get any error messages ... just stops loading database and stops
Acronis doesn't ring a bell ??

What antivirus are you using ?

Something to try, go into the antivirus setting, locate and tell it not to scan emails. See if WLM opens or is still the same.

There is also one thing that comes to mind, but shouldn't matter these days --- Outlook Express for example can freeze as described if there is to much mail in the folders. Not so much the amount of mail, but the actual size.

One other thing to try, right click the WLM Icon, Compatibility Tab, start WLM in Compatibility Mode.

ok I ran trouble shooter ... compatibility...says some program incompatible... how do you find which?
virus off no change

Whats the exact message - never seen windows say "some program" theres sometimes a view report ( or similar wording) that you can click on, or some code.

Starting win live 2012

Program has stopped working... close

the mail database might be corrupt.
Or a addon might be screwing things up (AV or other )

as a last resort,
copy the whole mail folder, delete the original folder , start live mail, them import mail from the copy you just made

Or just move onto a better email program.

Might try that... anything that requires starting the program is useless as it won't start.
Might try that out ... can't get any more useless.
No addons conflicting don't think. Went away for a few days .. came back no go !!
Thunderbird is go now
