30-05-2014, 10:03 AM
Sony Vaio VGN-NW280F
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Internet Explorer v10 and previously v11 opens to a white window then in about 15 second closes
internet connectivity ~ works
Mozilla Firefox ~ works

Reset Internet Explorer settings: fails on Applying default settings
downgraded from IE v11 to IE10: no change
scanned with Malwarebytes: clean
tried opening in Safe Mode: no change
Windows security updates: no change

other symptoms:
right click on My Computer, Properties ~ will not open
Windows Live Mail will not print an e-mail

I am inclined to think all these problems are related

would like assistance on getting IE & WLM working correctly.

Thank you in advance

Try starting in safemode with networking, if it then opens, try running antimalware programs like Adwcleaner, IF it has AVG , uninstall it, its useless anyway, AVG is known to cause the problem.

Has the computer got any of those rubbish reg cleaners or performance enhancing programs ? You may want to run sfc as well.

Go into internet options in the control panel, reset again then check if GPU offloading is enabled. If it is, disable it.

Looks like a few thing are stuffed, FF runs but if you download something then go to open the downloaded file / select opening containing folder, it says class not registered. If you right mouse on the desktop / personalize you get a no such interface supported error. Screen resolution brings up the same error. But gadgets works

It's possible there's a corrupt profile

Or it looks like some files somehow have been unregistered

Got it somehow actxprxy.dll had become unregistered. This fixed the personalize error and computer / properties now works. It also fixed the class not registered error in firefox. And the screen resolution error

Had to type this in a command prompt (run it as admin). "%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe" "%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\actxprxy.dll" this is for Win 7 64 bit

If you've got Win7 32 bit, you type this instead

"%SystemRoot%\System32\regsvr32.exe" "%SystemRoot%\System32\actxprxy.dll"

Looks like IE had the same prob as above. ieproxy.dll wasn't registered. Thats why it closed 10-15 secs after it was opened.

To fix this, open a command prompt as admin, then type regsvr32.exe "c:\program files (x86)\internet explorer\ieproxy.dll" for IE 32 bit. And regsvr32.exe "c:\program files\internet explorer\ieproxy.dll" for 64 bit

Just updating IE 11 now, so far so good. HOPEFULLY it'll run properly now

Yup took a while to fix it but so far so good. Everything that didnt work (well what I saw) works now ! It may have been a reg cleaner that stuffed things up, I would say
