hi, im looking at getting a graphics card for 3d animation etc with some gaming on the side. i was thinking about a r9 295x2 but its a bit expensive so i cant decided on 4x r9 290 or 2 x gtx 780ti. any advice would help or alternatives etc?

personally i would got for 2x 780ti as it is less cards = less hassle.
although if your really just looking for a bit of gaming and really need the horsepower for your 3d modeling then something like a firepro w8000 is around the cost of 2x 780ti, it will do your work much better but for gaming it performs in between the level of a 7950 and 7970.
I have a 7950 and it runs bf3 at ultra and doesn't really dip below 50 fps.

OpenCL is still the underdog when it comes to 3D modeling. You need to check what API the program uses, however best bet is CUDA and therefore either a Titan or plain Geforce game....
