View Full Version : Remote Assistance

My PC is on Win 8.1 - my friend's is Win 7. She's a bit of a numbskull and can't even access her Gmail despite my endless hair-loss attempts to talk her through it on the phone.

So... can 8.1 work with a remote 7 computer? Sadly I have very little experience of Remote Assistance, am new to Win 8, and very limited use of Win 7.

Easier to use a third party program, something like Team Viewer, the person controlling needs the full version ( free for home usage) and the help-e only needs the Quick Support.

Both available from http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/windows.aspx

There's another one I also use, completely free for both business and home usage http://www.remote-control-desktop.com/products/instant-version The helper uses the Admin version on the right, while the one being helped uses the user. These DONT require installing, Team Viewer Does.

if you connect all the time they both can be setup to gain access on set connections.

Just to clarify, the Team Viewer QS for the person being helped does not need installing. Just copy it to the desktop.

Another vote for Teamviewer, it's great. Just make sure you are running the same version or something close. I tried to use version 9 with someone running version 5 and it kept disconnecting until they updated.
