SWMBO wants me to install Skype. There appears to be a wide range of Webcams available but I need some advice as to which one to purchase.
Can anyone suggest something suitable please. I guess like most things you get what you pay for but any help would be appreciated. OS is Win7.

We are using Logitech C930e at work, and finding them very good. Appears google is using the same/similar model in OEM form for their Chromebox for Meetings product.

I forget the model but I just bought one of the cheaper logitech ones for my occasional Skype use. Seems ok.

What's your budget? Not to concerned about the price but just want one that will do a good job. It appears that Logitech may be the way to go.

I had a VX-3000 (Microsoft Lifecam for Win7). Then got a Lifecam HD-3000. for Win8 (the other isnt compatible with Win8). I found the Logitech installs, installs too much crap

The install file adds a lot of entries to startup. Just to get the thing to work properly

Dono what models you have used but that's not the case for the C930e, it installs the driver and away it goes.

Havent used one for ages. Only thing I've got thats Logitech now are their speakers and the K400r keyboard. Thankfully you dont need to use their drivers for either of them !

Just attached my old logitech C210 to a windows 8.1 -- didn't need to download drivers the OS just installed them fine, nothing added to the startup menu.

Went to their site and got the full install, it upgraded the drivers, and you have the option not install all the other bundled software (untick). After that there was one entry added to the start menu that was then disabled.

What is the audio like or do you use a separate microphone?.

The basic ones does the job but the higher ones IMO can be nicer with autofocus, better lens and coating when sunlight is coming thru the window or if you have shadows and bright areas like at night with the small lamp. Some can also do macro focussing so you can show the person photographs or tickets etc.
