My daughter's almost new laptop suddenly put her into this screen and whatever we do we can't get out of it.

Any ideas before I call Asus in the morning?

Right click on Task Bar/select Start Task Manager/select Applications tab/right click on offending task/end task

From here try this (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/86522-35-asus-x501a-bootable-drive)

Ok so I figured it out guys, it was kind of silly but here we go.

So this system is sort of a hybrid legacy and EUFI system, and there a few steps I needed to take to get it to recognize devices that aren't the original HDD

First I had to the Security Options of the BIOS and disable "Secure Boot"
After that go to the Boot section of the BIOS and
- Disable Fastboot
- Enabled CSM (Compatibility Support Module)
- This will allow the BIOS to see other bootable drives (For some reason it keep on being disable when I would restart, so that's why I couldn't see my SSD)

Sounds like it can't find the hdd to boot into windows

That's my feeling as well - any idea how I get it to see the hdd?

It has to go into the service centre - could be faulty connection or bad drive.
