i have bought a new case which has this black power-cord like cord coming from the front USB plug bank. The cord has 'USB 3.0' on it so I'm guessing it is meant to plug into the motherboard. Thing is my current motherboard doesn't seem to have a pin set that will take the plug. I'm looking at a new motherboard, I think this is the correct pin set for it (arrow pointing to it) </a
The new board's spec here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131820 don't seem to clearly say either way (or maybe it's because I don't know the correct technical term for the connector).
Anyway, can somebody advise me on this?

That's a TPM header, not USB 3.0. What's your motherboard's model number? The USB 3.0 header on the new board appears to be the blue one between the RAM slots and the 24-pin power connector. :)

USB3 Plugs on motherboard havea slot / Plug arrangement, the pins you pointed to are not USB3.

Have a look at the picture on http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/front-panel-usb-3-connector,2755.html Thats what they look like.

A whole new motherboard seems a bit extreme, and if you have OEM windows it'll invalidate your key.
What about something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124120 stuck to newegg as you seem to be in the US ?

On that particular board the blue connector near the ram slots would appear to be a USB3.0 header. Can't tell for sure.

Yep - that's 100% correct.
