Why don't you try it and then you can tell us?

No there is no upgrade path from Windows 8.1 to Windows 3.11, you will have to do a clean install. Don't forget to reformat your drive to FAT.

Also you can't have more than a handful of megabytes of RAM as Windows 3.11 is 16-bit.

And it is hard to find good 16 bit progs anymore.

Upgrade to Win9 beta, divide by 3 to get you to Win3. Then upgrade to 3.11
You will need to divide the hard drive by 2 to get to Fat16 .
Also take your 300G hard drive and partition it to 150 2Gig partitions.
You will now be able to play wolf3D & Doom if you exit Win3.11 into Dos. Well worth the effort I think
I also recommend a 3rd party mem management program (qemm) , else anything over 640K wont be used.

I have a few. Might have an 8MB stick of RAM and a 365MB hard drive to run them on, too.

While the kernel is on a different planet there are some similarities between the two interfaces - no start menu, ........

I had 3.11 on 6 floppies somewhere, might have thrown it out though.
I do have windows 95c with USB support on a CD somewhere.

Well, I've got DOS 6.22, Win 95 AND Win 3.11 on floppies all on my shelf beside me!! So there.

Now don't ask me why the hell I keep these floppies, as I don't know myself. Must be some misguided nostalgia!

I have a client still running Dos 6 (2 PC's). These old floppies still come in usefull. Im surprised mine were still readable

I remember backing up my windows 3.11 floppies when new, then going to install it sometime later to discover disk errors on the originals. For a long time I used to install windows by going back and forth between the originals and the backups as they all were corrupted to a degree. Pretty certain I threw them out thinking of that.

I gather the OP if He wasn't just trolling realises there is no upgrade option for any windows prior to XP so he needs a full or OEM version and a clean install. Given the huge difference in age & hardware requirements I assume it wasn't a serious question.

an upgrade from windows 6.2.1 to dos 6.2 sounds amazing.

Come to think on it I've got a heap of floppy disks with DOS 6, Win3.11 and miscellaneous stuff. Don't know why I keep them as I don't even have a working PC with a floppy drive now.

Like me, Rod! Just has to be a combination of pack rat mentality and nostalgia!

But, considering how much we paid for stuff in the olden days, it is no wonder we keep things.
