View Full Version : FYI - more win 8.1 problems

I updated my ASUS VivoTab 400MEC to 8.1 fine, but some things have problems -- if you are wedded to these softwares, be aware:

1. Cisco Any Connect VPN gives an error message to reinstall, often, in places in which I don't think I am using anything of this. But clicking through, and "use anyway", seems to be fine. An annoyance, really.

2. Avanquest PowerDesk, which I really like, says that I have used my software key before, and refuses to run. I've notified the company and asked them to reset the key.

3. Another annoyance: doing anything through Apps, and exiting it, puts you back into Start.

Otherwise, it all seems to be good and working, though running (I think) a bit slower than 8.0. Nice to be able to boot to the desktop.

Depending on the version of cisco, according to this some arent compatible (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithUpdatedFilters?TempOsid=Windows%2 08.1&Locale=en-us&Architecture=X64&TextSearch=cisco%20vpn%20client&Type=Both&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=1&ShowCriteria=2&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compatibility=Unknown&ProductName=cisco%20vpn%20client&LastRequested=7)

Same goes for powerdesk (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithDefaultFilters?TempOsid=Windows%2 08.1&Locale=en-us&Architecture=X64&TextSearch=%2BAvanquest%2BPowerDesk&Type=Both&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=1&ShowCriteria=0&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compatibility=Unknown&LastRequested=14)

nothing should be slower in Windows 8.1, maybe if you can explain more about what you are seeing

for your annoyance number 3, maybe set this checkbox "when I sign in or close all apps on a secreen, go to the desktop instead of Start", in taskbar and navigation properties (right click on tasb bar, properties)
