I have a new PC and monitor, It is a ASUS gaming monitor and i can connect using all sorts of cables to my PC.

Is HMDI the best one to use?

Cheers

HDMI or DVI, same quality except DVI doesn't do Audio and can support higher resolutions (HDMI is capped at 1080P or so)
VGA is ok as a last option, despite being the worst of the 3 it's often hard to see the difference.

Display port is fine also, basically any of the digital interfaces give comparable quality.

Depends a little on the resolution, 1920x1080 then DVI-D, HDMI or DisplayPort will all yield the same results. If it's, say, 2560x1440 or higher, you'd need at least DVI-D Dual Link, HDMI 1.3, or DisplayPort 1.2.

Being analogue, it depends a lot on the quality of the cables. Cheap ones often lead to ghosting and such at high resolutions. I suspect the video card and monitor itself also come into the equation to some extent.

Please don't use VGA.

Please don't use VGA.

So the old plug with a screw on either sides is VGA.

Same type I been using for years?

Sounds like hmdi is the way to go..?

There's no performance difference between HDMI 1.3 and DVI-D DL at anything up to 2560x1600, so whichever you have cables for is probably the easiest answer.

Does the monitor have onboard audio? If so, HDMI, but otherwise DVI will work just as fine but it really comes down to what you have around.

Hope this helps.
