You need to backup to another drive, preferably external which will contain
your settings, files and other info in the backup/System Image, depending
on your backup choice. Booting from the created Recovery Disc will enable
you to repair the files or full system from the stored backup/image.
A CD has a capacity of less than 700MB. Somebody will explain it better but
I would suggest you read up on the subject of PC Backup.

Generaly speaking a back up just contains your data ie the things you add in the way of documents music etc.
To have a complete backup of everything you need to make an image. An image contains everything on your computer and can be used to restore everything ie, to a new hard drive in the event of HD failure.

Do you mean create a RESTORE CD ?? that may not backup ANY user data/docs

Dont use CD's for backup, dont use USB sticks either, get a USB Hard Drive
Dont assume a backup program will backup all your stuff , especially the built in Windows backups or programs that came with a USB HD.

As mentioned, get yourself an external hard drive with a large enough capacity
on which to store your backup needs and whatever else you choose to store.
My ext drive contains a Full Backup including a Disc Image, updated weekly
and seperate folders with all of my music, videos, documents and more.
Your initial post indicates that you would expect to backup everything to CD
or DVD media - forget that idea. You can create a Recovery Disc on CD to
use in the event of a problem, or if installing a new internal hard drive.
The recovery boot cd will give you access to the Disc Image on the ext drive.
