The Girlfriend's One V is getting a bit sluggish for her, wondering what you guys think would be the best value Android phone under $300 as a replacement?

Thanks. :)

The One V is a low-to-mid-range phone which is still only *just* in the $300 range most of the time. It's not really helped by HTCs Sense UI, but I'd suggest she save another $200 and pick herself up a Nexus 4 from The Warehouse Stationery for $489.

Then, she'll be going from a single-core 1Ghz to a quad-core 1.5Ghz. From an 800x480 to a 1280x720 screen. From a sluggish UI (ICS isn't it?) to the latest smooth Jellybean experience...

She's going to have to throw a bit more than just $300 at it to get an upgrade. Alternatively, flash a custom ROM?

Thanks Chill, that's what I suspected. Yes, ICS.

A custom ROM is an option for sure...last time I checked CyanogenMod was very buggy on the One V, so it might be worth re-visiting that.

I really like the One-V, it's just a little too slow is all. Great battery life, great camera, SD card slot...for the money, they are a nice phone, just need a little more grunt.

Edited - Looks like it's not officially supported, but there is a unofficial one that looks OK. Haven't rooted a Droid before...do you know of a good guide?

That was both in-store and online. Two mates of mine got them last week. One online, the other I went with into Albany store to pick it up :)

I think that Nexus promo price has ended at WHS.

That was for the 16GB ... The 8GB here is that price, or you can get the 16GB for just shy of $500:
