Our printer started printing half characters on several lines, then it just died, tried power on different wall socket, still dead.

6 years old so suppose it's had it's day, lol.

Warehouse opening up in Hornby, have HP1050s going for $19.00 down from $59.00.

Are these any good, some online comments were ink coming off photos was a prob.

Thanks guys.

If you're willing to pay a little more upfront, and don't need colour printing/scanning, thought about going for a budget laser? You'll save money in the long run using toner rather than ink cartridges.

That HP looks pretty good, from this reveiw
http://www.trustedreviews.com/HP-Deskjet-1050_Printer_review

3 things to check

1) how many pages will the black cart do ( & the color cart) . Its so inconvenient having tiny black carts constantly running out of ink
2) whats the cost of new ink carts, HP may be expensive
3) can the ink cart be refilled, or are cheaper aftermarket carts available. This may not matter much to you.

3.5) can you keep using it if 1 colour cart is empty, some printers will not allow even blk printing if 1 color cart is empyt
3.75) are the supplied ink carts 'starter cartriges' .These starters carts will do b8gger prints, forcing you to buy a full set of expensive carts very soon.

Thanks for the comments.

Sade, $20.00 is throw away stuff, we have always gone for more expensive.

Nick, never like the idea of Toner.

1101, think we may stay with Canon, one decent printer between wifey and myself should be adequate, wife seems to have tossed card making as her Canon is wonky so she says and I only need to print off family history books occasionally, last time was 2003 although the tree has been updated with new rellies.

Thanks again,
