Google Drive was unable to connect. When I went looking for the cause, I found That several of its files had become associated with Windows Media Player. That they - (.exe and .dll) - were labeled "opens with Windows Media Player"!!??
I have uninstalled G.Drive in order to re-install it cleanly.
Now I want to un-install Windows Media Player so it won't corrupt Google Drive's re-installation.
How do I do that?

MS Help could only suggest That I install Win8.
that is never going to happen!!

How on earth did Windows Media Player manage to associate itself with .exe and .dll files :illogical

If that's the case, you're going to have a very hard time fixing it...

its by design. the only logical solution is to smash head against monitor and install linux.

do a system restore to the day before.

that might help

Do this while booted from the Windows disc though, as trying to launch System Restore might launch Windows Media Player instead.

if you want to uninstall Windows media player that's easy enough, Go to the Control Panel, programs and Features, near the top left, Turn Windows Features on or off - when it loads scroll down and expand media Features, untick Windows Media Player.

Just keep in mind sometimes things break if these programs are removed ( but not always)

Had similar actually with a customer and Firefox, it did an update and all of a sudden ALL exe files and programs wanted to open in FF - made life interesting :D FF totally screwed up the system.

Issue sorted,_ sort of, I uninstalled IE 10 and found that IE 9 hiding behind it. Tried to reinstall 10, but 9 prevented that, so had to uninstall 9 then install10.
The install was successful, or that is what the software told me.

In windows explorer the IE10 files associated with WMP. were still there, but this time applying 'Open With' to one of one of them sorted the lot,at a stroke!

Now I just have to get IE to work.:(

PS. WMP is working.
