View Full Version : WinXP RESTARTS with 98SE!

29-11-2001, 06:58 PM
I'm trying to connect 2 pcs - XP professional (mine) and 98SE (friends). We installed Realtek RTL8139 PCI network cards on both PCs with the latest drivers, but as soon as we plug in the network cable (crossover) the XP automatically restarts without any prompt!
I had 98 (first edition) before upgrading but after I upgraded TCP/IP doesn't work!
The only time it works is when I restart in safe mode with network enabled.
Any help??? We tried everything - configuring IP adress, disabling the firewall, ping, wizard... but these do not solve the problem. We both have Athlon T-Bird 1.2GHz with 256Mb DDR RAM and GeForce2 PRO card. We are both trying to connect through TCP/IP with workgroup HOME

Thanks

Have you run the networking wizard in XP on the win98 box

You probably have a BIOS option called 'Wakeup on LAN' (or similar) enabled. Turn it off.
