If I save a Word document as a PDF file, is it possible to encrypt it so that others can't edit it?

Looks like you can encrypt it with a password under options. When you go to save it as a pdf file. Besides that I dont think so

Depends on how determined a person is to edit it.

While you can encrypt a PDF, there is also a lot of free ( and paid) software that can convert encrypted PDF's so they are completely editable. Example (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100228190447AAtmrLN).

pdf docs are supposed to be un-editable by nature. You cant edit a pdf doc period, you can encrypt for security.

I got software here that can do exactly that - its called Nitro pro http://www.nitropdf.com/pro/tour

Edit: Look under the Edit text + images Tab on the left.

The pdf document can be made into a series of jpg's exactly like the original pdf pages and they are virtually non-editable.

Don't even need specialised software these days - Word 2013 can edit PDFs too, although not very well.

You could also use a archiving/zip utility to password/encrpt the pdf or most other file types. WinZar can password protect.

Well, the original standard of the pdf was for an un-editable document. Progress eh?

The idea of saving the PDF with the text as a photo works good. Post #7 - While the photo can be extracted you still cant alter the text.
