Hi, following my pervious post, i'm just wondering if as soon as i install the cd-rw (which i'm not sure which model, 'cos haven't got it yet) windows 98 sec which i'm using will detect it and make a drive in my computers called Drive [something]: probably f, because a is floppy c and d is hard drive and e is cd-rom. will windows make that drive straight away, because i'm wanting to download a cd-rw program rather than use the one that comes with the cd-rw.

Thanks,

If you do not have a CD RW then most software won't allow you to install.
Ensure you have mastered the master / slave configuration otherwise you will loose both cd's.
there are four IDE 'Slots.'
Primary Master. Primary Slave. Secondary MAster Secondary Slave. one device per 'Slot'

You can allocate drive letters to CD Rom drives etc. by going into System properties, Devices, CD ROM, double click the CD Rom you want to allocate a letter to, and change the letters at the bottom of the window. It's pretty self explanatory once you get there
