I am about to install Win 8 onto an SSD. I currently run Win 7 on the same HDD as data and programmes. My question is, how can I remove Win 7 after installing Win 8, without losing the data and programmes?
The best idea so far is to migrate Win 7 to the new SSD (using Paragon or similar), then clean install Win 8 on the SSD. Would this work? Is there a better way?

You can save your data but any programs will have to be reinstalled so the answer is no for a clean install.

Sounds as if you want to install Windows 8 onto a different drive that Windows 7 is. There's no way to keep installed programs (simply copying files won't work), but you can install Windows 8 onto the new SSD and point its Documents etc. folders to your existing folders.

Best to disconnect the HDD during installation of Windows 8 though.

Not as a clean install, as an upgrade maybe but it doesn't always got to plan
