I recently lost my phone and was just wondering if I contacted my service provider if it could be locked using the IMEI number. I'm on 2Degrees.
Then I thought, hey what if I found or got my phone back, would I then be able to unlock it using the IMEI?

I lost my old one a while ago now and Telecom blocked it so whoever picked it up couldnt use it. And I xferred what was left on it to the new cell #

I have an iPhone, so I just use the free Apple service "Find my iPhone." It even works with old iPhone 3GS.

I don't think 2degrees has a blocking system in place (whereas Vodafone and Telecom do) - this is why you see phones on trademe that "work on 2degrees only" - it's not because of frequencies, it's because they've been blocked by VF and Telecom.

Man that is a bit disappointing how 2Degrees doesn't IMEI block them. Oh well, I'll just get a new one (eg. 'That' $35 Samsung one on telly)
