I am writing this on behalf of a friend as she cannot do it herself.

She has a 'Sirocco Pentuim 3' running Win 98
When she turns her computer on it goes to the MS Win 98 picture and no further so she reboots and then comes back to Safe Mode automatically she pushes enter and it comes up with the message 'Windows did not finish loading propely
She has tryed putting the recovery disc in and all it comes up with is 'Setup can not find scandisk.exe. file may be missing or damaged. Any suggestions on this problem would be awesome!!!!

Hi, if you haven't managed to fix the problem yet, try the following:

on booting just after the memory count, press F8

This should pop up a menu, from here select the option: 'Step by Step confirmation' (should be number 4)

Follow this through and it should indicate what is going wrong.

Alternatively you can try option 2 (Logged (\Bootlog.txt)), run throught the startup once it grinds to a halt restart, press F8 and select option 5 (Command Prompt only).

This will put you in a DOS Command prompt.
From here type in 'Edit bootlog.txt'. this should open the previously made Logged startup from above.
This will hopefully let you see where the startup sequence is failing.

Once you have this information further troubleshooting is possible.

You can, of course, put the Windows 98 startup disk in, format the drive and re-install ... your friend did make a start-up disk ... ?
If not and you have Win98, make one and use that.

Hope this helps
