I want to build a CD collection of my old slides and negatives.

I know 2400x2400 Res should be min optical for scanner, any feedback about scanners, reasonable cost, good software, fast at rated etc.

Complimentary sofware to build viewable files off CD perhaps slide fashion, or better as a page with notes and multiple pictures.

Unless you are intending to try to print from your archive you don't need 2400 x 2400. Canon have a newish scanner (model 660U) with built in negative and transparency scanning facility and 600 x 1200 dpi ay around $450.
It might be worth a look.

Thanx Billy

I wonder though if 1200x1200 (the res of the Cannon for Slides and film) is enough to want to print a photo later?

Also, I would like to do a 'Contact' print of a set of negatives. Most scanners only offer one to three negs at a time. This is great to sort out the chaff.

I'm testing an Epson 1250 photo right now ($350+) and it has big operational problems and no flexibility. However it does do what it was designed to do quite well with 1200x2400 optical. But try to do an old 120 or 110 neg, or multiple slides or negs and it is hopeless.

I think more people are going to be doing what I'm doing. I don't mind a 1 or 2 meg picture as I will saving to Cd. Where are multilevel DVD writers when you need them.
