I now have Word 2010 but on my computer I have some old files done in Word which say WPS. I cant read them now.
Is there a reader I can download that will let me read the WPS files? Cheers.

Word 2010 should read wps files fine.

WPS are Microsoft Works files, not word.

Normally I just right click the WPS file, open with, select Word 2010 and they open. then you save them as word files.

Another way --Open word, click File and then Open, go to the directory where the WPS file is stored. Then choose All files for the file type. Open the Works file and Word will automatically download the special converter needed to open the file.

I have some really old MS Works files that open fine into LibreOffice. I can't remember if I needed to install an add-in to get this work or not. Then save as a Word file and you are done.

Don't know if this will help, but try the earlier converter V4 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7264
