My new Panasonic DVD recorder has a LAN port to connect to the internet.
This is a new idea to me. What functionality does this enable? What can I do with it?

It has freeview built in and that comes with EPG.

I would like more extensive information, please.

Should be able to stream to it from your computer and watch on your TV

And programs you have recorded on the internal hard drive (assuming this is the model you have) can be watched from elsewhere in the house.

FYI
I have discovered, online, that the DVD (DMR-XW390) recorder has built in, the functionality of a Freeview set top box!
