Hey there guys,

I'm trying to reinstall the OS on my friend's aging Mac Book pro which has a faulty DVD drive by using my Windows 7 laptop as an external DVD Drive over a wired network connection.. I'm very experienced with a windows PC but am a complete n00b when it comes to a Mac so bear with me! lol

As mentioned, her DVD drive is shot and I don't have time to buy a new external one.. I guess I have a couple of options to reinstall the OS..

1) Connect my Windows 7 laptop via a LAN cable and somehow trick her Mac Book into thinking my laptop is an external DVD Drive

2) Rip the Mac OS DVD to an ISO file, transfer it to a USB drive, and then use that to install it on the Mac book.

Anyone see any problems with this or know of a program to use my Win 7 laptop as a virtual DVD drive?

Thanks again guys

Wouldn't the mac need a BIOS. So you can change the bootdisk to USB, if you did it this way?? Even if you made an ISO, I dont think it will boot from USB. It would still have to be burned to a DVD
