I have a HDD with a hidden partion that I wish to delete.
It is in EISA format but cntl pnl/admin tools/comp mngmnt/disk mngmnt won't let me do anything with it.

How can I delete it and format it for general use please.

TIA

If you can see it in "disk management", try right-clicking it and adding a drive letter (if it doesn't have one :)).

Use Parted Magic.

Are you sure "EISA format" is correct?

That's usually a (very old) system recovery partition / diagnostic tools.

OEM usually don't want you to delete these partitions; that's why they're marked hidden.

No third party software is needed however. The DOS command "Diskpart" can delete 'em.

"Rescan"

"list disk"

"select disk #", where # is the disk that has the partition

"list partition"

"select partition #", where # is the partition you want to delete

"delete partition override"

Needless to say, this is dangerous. Proceed at your own risk

Hi Kingdragonfly,
Your fix worked down to and including the "list partition" command.
From there on it just kept returning back to the "list partition" command.

I did not have the option of selecting a partition number.

Markbartnz, I can see the partition in "disk management" but right clicking only gives me a "help" option which leads nowhere.

Thanks to both of you.
Any other idears ???

That doesn't sound like Parted Magic (http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=start) you were using.
Download the iso and copy that to a CD then boot from the CD.

Hi Guys,
Done it !

Part magic, part manager and all other suggestions didn't work.

But Booting from cd and re-stalling win xp allowed me to delete all partitions and re partition as one drive and install successfully.

Cheers to all,
Phil.
