Pathetic, when this happens you just turn off the ignition.

120mph without hitting anything? Maybe we should send the police over there and get her to give them some training.

Unlucky to have that happen on you. Still, nice to see she handled it and kept dodging without hitting anything.

I agree, it makes no sense. I once had the throttle stick on full on me when taking off from a driveway into a busy road, you panic and it takes a few seconds to figure out what to do, but certainly not extended runaway driving. In my case I turned right into traffic, and then had to stop on a red light only to discover the throttle was stuck; It went like this;
Accelerate hard to hit a gap in traffic
See red light, lift foot, car still accelerating
Slam on the brakes, front wheels lock up, car still accelerating (1st gear, 2 litre rear wheel drive car at about 4000 RPM, the road code tells you braking will work!)
Take it out of gear, engine hits about 8000 RPM
Turn off ignition, stand on the brakes, car stops
Lift the throttle off the floor with my foot, gingerly start the car and crawl around the block and go back home to see what's wrong.

Morons. Shouldn't be allowed out of the bedroom without a minder.

Take it out of gear - use brakes - switch off engine.

Well....look at her picture...

999 Woman: "have you put it in neutral"
Moron: "can't get it to move"

And:
"After a 35-minute ordeal covering 95km, Ms Ubelstad was able to stop her car by following the troopers' directions to lift up the accelerator while applying the brake."

Didn't even have to turn it off.....lift your foot you idiot....it's going fast cause you have your foot pushing on it...

WTF...

I had the throttle stick on a motorway, didn't realise until I lifted my foot to slow down for a toll gate, Just kept on accelerating.

Went through the toll gate like a bat out of hell, But yeah, took her out of gear, aimed for the shoulder, bought her to a halt, turned off the engine.

No media required.

Probably bluetooth...however, she tried brakes, and gearbox, why not try the damn ignition?....

Did no-one see the cops told her to take her foot off the accelerator which bought her to a halt?!

Read my lips……… Woman Driver. ;)

I read your lips, but all they said was 'stupid woman, turn off the ignition".

However, it wouldn't surprise me to find that US cars don't let you turn off the ignition while moving, just in case some idiot pulls out the key and locks the steering. At least that would get them off the road though.

Maybe SJ can explain this extraordinary phenomena to us? He must have a handle on it by now.

Maybe their idiot-proofing has gone the full circle and now creates idiots?

Cheers

I also would dare any one to take 1 hand off the wheel at 100mph, on a busy road, without racing experience. You would fail

The failure is getting to 100mph in the first place, that takes a while unless you're driving a sports car. And even at 100mph on a motorway, all you need is a couple of seconds of straight line driving to easily turn the key off. The only reasonable excuse is what someone suggested about american cars maybe not letting you turn the ignition off while in motion, anything else is just stupidity.

Has anyone tried putting an auto into neutral at a 100kph, or tried turning the ignition off. Very curious. Have Only ever done this in my old escort and that was manual.

Woooow, with all this negative flak, I better not say what happened to me some 60 years back, suffice to say being a weight lifter at the time , was able to lift the rear end of the vehicle back onto the road bridge.

Good Police work over there at least.

No not this one, rofl.

Had a good run over 8 years, although it had the lowly 6v battery, which was always going flat.
