Hey guys and gals,
I recently got ArmA II retail for my pc. When I try to install it it copies the files from the disk to my computer then tries to extract the files which are in a .srep file. It extracts to 35% then fails. System:
APU: AMD A4-3400
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-A55M ds something
(CPU/APU has inbuilt graphics)

Fails in what way?

Srep.exe has stopped working (srep.exe is the program it uses to extract the .srep archive)

Arma II requires a dediated gpu, not just onboard because it requires shader model 3. what extraction wizard are you using?

Can you post a pic o the files?

My CPU has an inbuilt GPU

yes but what he is sayign is that you need a dedicated gpu... a cpu's gpu is not really a gpu.

Thanks guys I was thinking of buying a gpu anyway.

The 6410g (Intergrated GPU in your CPU) shouldn't cause the install to fail. IMO it would probably handle arma 2 at lower settings.

Unless it needs something like .net framework (and whatever version isnt installed - depending on the version of windows)

Does anyone think I should just buy it on steam?

If you got it from a shop, and it wont install take it back. And tell them it wont install

Every program/resource that arma II depends on is up to date

Well, I would send the guys who made it an email (http://www.bistudio.com/english/support). Tell them what the prob is, and how to fix it

Try installing arma 2 free and see what happens, it shoudnt work as onboard gpus dont support shader model 3 which is required to run. I dont even think arma 1 would work.

Its not an onboard it's integrated there's a difference!!!

Firstly settle down then tell me, do you know if the 'integrated' graphics support shader model 3? If you dont know, test it with the free version from:

www.arma2.com

It makes NO difference what video card or integrated graphics processor you have.

The game will still install, it just won't work, if the GPU is not fast enough.

Only a game that detects hardware first and would then refuse to install on the grounds that the hardware would be too slow would be stopped from installing on slow hardware, but in this case it's crashing, so that won't be the situation.

Clearly there is some other issue affecting the installation.

Yes i tried the setup on 2 different pcs, one with onboard and one with dedicated, it only worked on the dedicated because it was the only one that supported shader model 3. The other pc was 5yrs newer.

The point is Stratex5 that at this stage it doesnt matter what gpu he has as it is the installer crashing.

Yeah, but im just saving him the hassel of finding out the problem but finding it doesnt work.

It should run, probably just a little slower than it should. OP said they were thinking of getting a dedicated card anyway, chances are they will still have the problem then.

Yeah, unless he can extract it, it wouldnt work. And even if it did it would work without a dedicated gpu with more than 512mb of memory and shader model 3 support.
