If I upgrade to a smartphone I wonder how/what is the best way to sync the non gmail accounts. ATM I have pop accounts and outlook.
Would I have to change the pop accounts to IMAP? What would then be a client for an android phone?
Thanks

There is a stock email app that works with pop i think. also there are 3rd party apps which do a pretty good job.

For android there is a stock email app (conveniently called Email) which does POP and IMAP. It would be advisable to change to IMAP if you have multiple clients (devices) accessing one mail folder. Otherwise messages will go either which way and everything will be out of date on different sides. That being said you don't HAVE to use IMAP but in my experience I advise it.

As stratex said, there are 3rd party email apps, have a look at the play store http://play.google.com and see if there is anything you like the look of
