View Full Version : Recommend a modem?

30-10-2001, 09:58 PM
I want to upgrade my 56k Lucent Win Modem to another 56k modem that will be compatible with Linux and Windows.

What features do I look for?

Any recommendations?

Any full hardware modem should suffice for windows and Linux. Dynalink do a very good external and a good internal ISA hardware modem. Avoid external USB modems as I believe they are a WIN modem as well (shoot me if I am wrong on that). US robotics and 3com also do good hardware modems as well, just a bit more expensive than the Dynalinks.
Dynalinks range from $180 up.
Linux will not recognise win modems and I believe Win 2k will not recognise them as well.

I use a Dynalink V1456VQE serial port modem on my Linux PC - no problems.
