Does anyone know exactly why it was that Xtra is on non standard ports after Yahoo taking over their email? I to this day simply cannot understand why or how this came to be? Something about spam protection? Surely spammers are smarter than that, and you just need decent spam protection anyway?

Don't they still use port 25 for SMTP??>

Nah, this is what is on their site - effectively EVERY single customer would call them up - but I just couldn't imagine why.

Incoming Mail Server: pop3.xtra.co.nz
Uses SSL
Port: 995
Username: Your email address without @xtra.co.nz
(e.g. joe.bloggs@xtra.co.nz becomes joe.bloggs)

Outgoing mail server: send.xtra.co.nz
Uses SSL
Port: 465
Outgoing server requires authentication

send,xtra.co.nz requires ssl, using authentication allows you to send mail accross servers, smtp.xtra.co.nz uses standard port 25 does not require you authenticate but you need to be connected to xtra ISP as it does not allow email relaying.
