all 3 laptops that are connected to this printer can no longer see it

the status icon on all three is greyed out, showing it as offline

the desktop is connected via usb and can print fine.

i have reinstalled the printer suite after uninstalling and rebooting but no-go, still says its offline

im not sure how to go proceed at this point, has been working fine previously

any help appreciated.

Is it wireless or shared from the desktop?

GameJunkie

Is there an error popup? And are you sure the internet is connected?

GameJunkie

yes, WLAN is enabled.

i've reconnected it to the network a couple times, no difference

True.

have you tried pinging the printer? The IP address might have changed.

Just a thought - when you retried to install the software was it completely removed first ? Only a guess But I'd say its more to do with the printer not connecting rather than than the laptops not seeing it. (if that makes any sense)

i pinged the the printer IP i got from its settings menu

ping 169.254.006.215 with 32 bytes of data:

Can you manually change the IP of the printer - the 169 in any IP means not connected, and the other basically means it cant reply at that IP.

The printers IP should be, going by that ( and i looked at mine as well) 192.168.1.2

WT: should i use revo to remove the software suite then try a reinstall??

still dont understand why all 3 laptops have done the same thing

Coz it's not connecting to the wifi properly. What make and model router?

GameJunkie
26-05-2012, 11:08 PM
router IP is 192.168.1.1

change the printer to 192.168.1.8 ??

Doubt its the laptops ( 1 yes, but all 3 - doubt it) unless theres some sort of firewall update that all 3 are using - as I said previously, I'd say its more to do with the printer not connecting the wireless - I assume its going through the Router - if so just as a test, disable all wireless security, then try reconnecting the printer as originally setup of the wireless.

OR is the printer connecting directly with no router (bluetooth)

did a network reset, added to wireles network and now it has its own IP of 192.168.1.7

So does it work?

GameJunkie

SOLVED:

after i added a new IP( the one i mentioned above)

i opened a word document, clicked to print, the network repair tool, repaired the IP, printed a test page to confirm

rebooted laptop, and now it shows it as connected

all i need now is a new black ink cartridge :D

thanks to everyone who pitched in with help on this one.

the mystery remains as to how the printer IP turned to custard???

the mystery remains as to how the printer IP turned to custard??? Join the club :waughh:

The laser printer I have in the workshop does that every so often, it decides to change its IP (Ethernet), it's quite old, so maybe its getting well past its use by date :D

It sometimes shows as being off line, so I remove it, and tell windows to install a network printer (again) it then picks up right away, different IP and is fine till next time.

I'm guessing it's IP lease expired and it failed to connect to the wireless DHCP and get reassigned.

It was most likely as DCHP or connection issue with the wireless part.

I guess we'll never know, glad its working now
