Unfortunately there are heaps of models of Galaxy S. The standard Galaxy S, the i9000, should work on all major NZ networks, as does the i9100 S II and i9300 S III. Some of the smaller-brother models (but still badged Galaxy S) like the M110S, i909 etc, probably won't like XT (or at least, not it's 3G network).

No. It won't.

The i9000 works on 2degrees / Vodafone
The i9000T / i9000M works on XT

They are not cross-compatible.

I blogged about it here: http://www.c2s.co.nz/blog/clarifying-the-nexus-s-galaxy-s-in-nz/

What Chill said.

I can get my galaxy S to work on Telecom with a bit of mucking around (I just felt like experimenting so I put my work SIM in it), but only for phone calls and txt, the data drops back to dial-up speeds because it doesn't have the Telecom band required for XT. It'll probably stop when they turn off the CDMA network as well.

You should be able to get a Telecom one to work in Vodafone and 2Ds 2100 band without any problems if you are in that coverage area..

A friend of mine got given it after buying a good Samsung TV and it turns out it is a Samsung Galaxy S Model# YP-G70EW/XSA which makes it a Tablet so it won't get Telecom or Vodafone.:(
If it had only worked on the Vodafone network I was going to buy it from him.

Yeah that's the Wifi-only model, designed to go head-to-head with the iPod Touch :p
