Hi guys.Trying to fix a friends laptop but I can't even get past the Bios screen,it just hangs.Pressing F2,F8,F12 do absolutly nothing.I cannot access the Bios at all.
It is a Toshiba L650.
I have taken the hard drive out and connected it to my pc and everything is still there.Any ideas?

Does it tell you what key to press on the post screen?? Most do. Try F10, F1, or Esc

It says on the bios screen.I took out battery and held down power button for a min, powered with AC only and it booted. Now I have black screen with spinning orb thing.
Will try it again and hopefully get into safe mode.

In safe mode it takes about 4 to 5 minutes to boot and in normal mode it's been over 15 minutes and still going.

That maybe the cause then. It maybe time to replace the hdd. Or a reformat

Yeah. It's like the drive stops and starts.

checkdisk can take a really long time if you have a big hdd. Still the boot time makes the hdd very suspect.

Let check disk run over night.Started up this morning and it is back to normal. This is the third Hitachi hard drive I have seen fail this year, and with newish laptops.
Should I tell him to save up for either a WD or Seagate?I heard Samsung are pretty reliable now too.
